Each digit of a number is in a specific place based on its distance from the decimal point and if it's before or after the decimal point. Each place has a specific name called the place value. The image below shows the most commonly used placed values:

TASK: Write the following decimal on an index card. 6245.237 Label each place value as shown in the example above. Tape the index card inside the front cover of your notebook so you will always have it as a reference.

It's important to know what digit is in which place value because place value is used for rounding numbers, which we will talk about in the next activity.
